Your pay, your days of aguinaldo and how much of the year you have worked: what you are owed before 20 December, and how much of it is taxed.

Your Christmas bonus (aguinaldo), before tax

$4,000

The law says it must be paid before 20 December.

$8,000

Daily pay is the monthly pay divided by 30.

15

The law sets at least 15; your contract can give more.

365

If you started this year, count the days from your start date to 31 December.

How much of it pays income tax

Tax-free$3,519
Taxed (ISR)$481

Federal Labour Law, art. 87: at least fifteen days of pay, before 20 December; if you did not work the whole year, the proportional part. LFT ↗

Tax-free up to 30 UMA: MX$3,519.30 in 2026 (UMA of MX$117.31 a day since Feb 1, 2026, INEGI). Income Tax Law art. 93 §XIV still says “minimum wage”; the SAT applies it as 30 UMA in its payroll guide. INEGI ↗

The calculation divides the monthly pay by 30, uses a 365-day year and does not work out the income tax on the taxed part.

What you learn here

  • The aguinaldo is a right, not a gift: the law asks for at least 15 days of pay before 20 December.
  • If you started working this year you are owed it too: the share for the days you worked.
  • Up to 30 UMA it pays no income tax; only the part above that is taxed, added to that month’s pay.
