Actinver Challenge 2026

The Actinver Challenge, position by position

A student stock-market contest, played with fictional money. I publish every position with the reason I opened it, before knowing whether it worked out.

The dates

Practice round
Sep 28, 2026 → Oct 2, 2026
The contest itself
Oct 5, 2026 → Nov 13, 2026
Starting capital
$1,000,000.00

No positions yet

The contest starts on October 5, 2026. Until the first buy, this page has nothing to show — and it says so instead of filling the space.

  • Each position with the shares, the price paid and the date.
  • The thesis: one or two sentences on why I bought it, written before the result is known.
  • The main risk of that position, in my own words.
  • The value of the portfolio, the change against the starting capital, and the best and worst position.
  • A chart built from one snapshot per trading night.
What a position looks like

This is the documented example inside the file — not a real position. It is checked by the same schema as the real ones, so it can be copied as it is.

Log

Each entry has the date, what I did, why, what I expected and, once it is known, what happened. I write every entry myself in the repository file; none is written by AI.

There are no entries yet. The first one is written on the day of the first buy.

The rules that apply to me

Copied word for word from the official rules, each with its clause number. If Actinver changes its text, its text is the one that counts: the page and the date it was consulted are below.

English translation made for this page. The rules are published in Spanish, and the Spanish text is the one that counts.

  1. Capital

Actinver publishes, in clause (1) of its rules: “You (the ‘Participant’) have access to a virtual amount of one million ‘actipesos’ ($1,000,000.00 actipesos) – on the understanding that these actipesos are not and will not be considered legal tender –, with which you may enter orders to buy and sell shares to build an Investment Portfolio (the ‘Portfolio’) […]”

  2. The balance resets

Actinver publishes, in clause (2): “[…] may use the investment simulator with the million virtual pesos; however, at the start of the Challenge this balance will be reset for the competition.”

  3. When it starts and when it closes

Actinver publishes, in clause (5): “The third stage is the competition, which will start at 00:00:00 on [5 October 2026] and run until 15:00:00 on [13 November 2026], Mexico City time […]”

  4. Minimum number of stocks and cap per stock

Actinver publishes, in clause (6): “In addition, to be declared the potential winner, the Portfolio must show trades in at least 5 (five) different shares and must at no point have made purchases of a single share for more than fifty percent (50%) of the value of its portfolio during the period evaluated.”

  5. Trading hours

Actinver publishes, in clause (8): “Orders will be received around the clock, including weekends and public holidays (non-business days), except during the hours when the computer systems are being serviced. Orders will be executed within the hours and days set by the BMV for its regular trading (07:30:00 to 14:00:00 and, from [3 November], 08:30:00 to 15:00:00, Mexico City time, Monday to Friday, except holidays). Orders received after trading hours will be executed with the value date of the next business day.”

  6. Order types and how long they last

Actinver publishes, in clause (8): “Orders may be placed at a Limit Price or at Market. Limit Price orders will be filled if a trade in that share is recorded on the BMV at the requested price after the order is received in the Challenge. Market orders will be filled at the next price recorded on the BMV for that share after the order is registered in the Challenge.” And in clause (11): “Filled orders cannot be cancelled. Unfilled orders are valid for one day; after that they will be cancelled automatically.”

  7. Commission

Actinver publishes, in clause (8): “To make the Challenge’s orders as realistic as possible, a rate of 0.10% (point ten percent) plus 16% (sixteen percent), equivalent to the commission and VAT, will be applied to the number of shares multiplied by the share price, and added to or subtracted from the amount of the trade, depending on whether it is a buy or a sell.”

Worked out: 0.116 % of the amount on every buy and on every sell (0.10 % commission plus 16 % VAT on that commission).

  8. Buying power

Actinver publishes, in clause (11): “The Challenge program will check each Portfolio’s Buying Power before any buy order is carried out. Buying Power means the virtual money from sales already made plus the remaining cash, minus the buy orders already entered. Trades that exceed the Buying Power will not be allowed.”

  9. Short selling

Actinver publishes, in clause (11): “The Challenge program will check the number of shares held before any sell order. Short selling will not be allowed. Orders cannot be modified.”

  10. Dividends

Actinver publishes, in clause (13): “The Challenge will not reproduce the corporate rights of the participating shares, such as dividends paid in cash or in shares, and subscriptions. The Challenge will reproduce the corporate rights of the participating shares in the case of splits, reverse splits and name changes.”

  11. Nothing automated

Actinver publishes, in clause (17): “The use of automated systems (for example: robots, scripts, bots, macros, programs or similar methods) is prohibited.”

My nightly job only reads Yahoo Finance prices to draw the chart: it never logs into the contest platform and never places orders.

What each point on my chart measures

Value = cash + shares × latest Yahoo Finance price (about 20 minutes delayed) at 19:00 Mexico City time; no dividends, with the commissions set by the rules; if a price is missing, the point is not written.

Actinver measures it another way. In its own words:

  • How it is won

Actinver says, in clause (7): “The method the Committee will use to determine the winners by performance in the event’s investment simulator will be Highest Absolute Gain at the end of the 6 (six) weeks.”

  • Which prices the platform uses

Actinver says, in clause (8): “To carry out orders in the Challenge, the current prices and trading volumes in real time at which shares trade on the BMV will be taken into account.”

  • How it values the portfolio

Actinver says, in clause (12): “The value of the virtual Portfolio and the Buying Power will be calculated continuously online during trading hours, taking into account the trades made and the changes in share prices. At the end of the day, the calculation will be checked against all the trades made during the session.”

They are not the same measurement, so the platform and my chart will not always show the same figure. For the contest, Actinver’s figure is the one that counts.

My portfolio against the IPC: beating a contest is not the same as beating the market, so the yardstick I hold myself to is the S&P/BMV IPC — the same session, the same currency and the index of the exchange where the contest is played. Its card already carries the index chart; once the contest starts and there are positions, this page draws mine, and the two get read side by side, never one on top of the other.

The calendar around the contest

Announcements with a published date around the contest, each with the page it comes from and the day it was consulted. A date on this list says nothing about what the market will do.

  1. Fed The US Federal Reserve announces its interest-rate decision at the end of the two-day FOMC meeting.

It is one of the meetings with a Summary of Economic Projections.

  5. BMV The BMV changes its hours: from 7:30–14:00 to 8:30–15:00, Mexico City time.

This date is not written by hand: the site works it out from the New York clock, because the BMV follows Wall Street’s hours. Actinver says in clause (8) “from [3 November]”.

What I am holding myself to

  • The thesis goes up when the position is opened, not once it is clear whether it worked.
  • A position that loses money stays on the page, with its exit price and its date.
  • The figures are the ones the file holds. If a price is missing, the page says so instead of guessing.
  • When the contest ends on November 13, 2026, the post-mortem goes here: what I got right, what I got wrong and what I would not do again.

How this page is built

  1. The positions live in a JSON file in the public repository. I edit it by hand and write the thesis and the risk myself; nothing here is generated by AI.

  2. The file is checked against a schema on every build. A missing date, a price that is not a number or a closed position without an exit price stops the deploy instead of publishing a wrong figure.

  3. Prices come from the site's own endpoint, which reads Yahoo Finance and caches it. They are delayed, and the page says by how much right next to the figures.

  4. Every trading night a scheduled job works out what the portfolio is worth and writes one line into the repository. That file, and nothing else, is what the chart draws.

Educational, not advice

I am a student playing a contest with fictional money and publishing my reasoning to learn in the open. It is not financial, investment or tax advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. The prices come from Yahoo Finance with a delay, and the contest platform may value the portfolio differently. A company can appear both here and in my research; when that happens, the interest is disclosed on both pages.
